Bio

Dr. William Sutton

Dr. Will Sutton is Assistant Professor of Music at North Dakota State University, where he teaches trombone, conducts ensembles, and contributes to the music theory curriculum. He previously served as Assistant Professor of Music at Northwest Missouri State University, where he taught low brass and music theory and led the Northwest Concert Band.

Will has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, Topeka Symphony, Classical Music Institute Orchestra of San Antonio, St. Joseph Symphony, Lansing Symphony, Orchestra of Northern New York, Holland Symphony, Capital Region Wind Ensemble, Capital City Brass Band, and Northern Symphonic Winds. He has appeared as a soloist with many college and university ensembles and has performed at the Midwest Regional Tuba and Euphonium Conference, the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference, and the Nebraska Music Educators Association Conference. Will has also served as a guest artist, presenter, and adjudicator at the International Women’s Brass Conference, the Boise State Low Brass Camp, and the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival, where he was a four-time semifinalist and returned as an adjudicator in 2023. He now serves on the Board of Directors for the Festival and coordinates social media.

In addition to his experience in large ensembles and solo playing, Will is an avid chamber musician. He is a founding member of the SVSU Faculty Brass Quintet, the Great Lakes Tuba/Euphonium Quartet, and Duo LoW, and has performed with faculty brass quintets at Michigan State University, Northwest Missouri State University, and SUNY Potsdam.

Each summer, Will teaches low brass and music theory at the New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine. He also frequently presents recitals, masterclasses, and clinics to high school and college students throughout the U.S.

His teachers include Ava Ordman, Phillip Sinder, Charles Guy, Mark Hartman, Michael Wilkinson, and Michael Meidenbauer. Will is an Eastman/Shires/Willson Performing Artist, and his solo playing can be heard on the Kendor Music, Inc. label.
